The Lake District in England is one of the most beautiful areas on earth to visit. Your experience of the Lake District will differ though depending on the time of your visit. The Lake District is stunning in any month but my recommendation is to visit in either April or September. The reasons for this are the weather and the crowds.

The Lake District is a mountainous region that is close to the sea, the question isn’t if it will rain today, but when and how much? Lake District weather is often a conversation topic all year round. October to March tend to be rainy months as, surprisingly, so do July and August. Bear in mind though that it can rain heavily at any time. It’s also not unusual for it to be wet in one area and dry in another place just a few miles away.

Peak visitor time tends to focus around the summer months and UK bank holidays such as Easter. Given that the Lake District is just a small rural area and that roads are usually narrow, travelling
in the summer can be difficult. You may also find that the cost of Lake District hotels and Lake District cottages rise greatly as demand soars. So try April or September to visit the Lakes. You will usually be reasonably warm and dry and you won’t have to deal with traffic jams and visitor queues.
